As a homeschool mom and stay at home mom, my plate is pretty full. I school two boys age 11 and 9 and I have a two year old as well that I keep up with. Throw in keeping a house semi-clean and orderly, chauffering kids to various activities, chef not so extraordinaire, plus serving in our church ministry… and my time for “fun” activities is limited. I am working on being more deliberate in the fun area…. But I also need to be more flexible and spontaneous as well.
My friend Stephanie is sooo good at this with her boys. In fact months ago on a particularly rainy day, she inspired me. On her blog she had posted photos of her boys playing in the rain, and I realized I had missed an opportunity in my own home for memory making. I was too busy focused on the "to-do" list and the day to day stuff, that I let the opportunity to have some fun, slip through my fingers. I didn't forget it.
So a couple weeks ago, it down-poured in the afternoon. No thunder or lightning mind you, just a heavy downpour of rain. And you know what I did, inspired by my friend Steph? I told the kids to go out and run in it… play in it… get all wet to their heart's content. No worrying about the mess, or the mud, or the clothes. Nope…just pure F-U-N!
Here are a few of the memories they made:

I LOVE these pictures. Just good, clean fun, and such pure enjoyment of it. Yay for moms that let their kids play in the rain and not worry about their clothes!
Hope things are good there!
Much love!
How fun...we need to play and dance more in the rain too...looks like the boys had a great time!
Oh my goodness.. that looks like fun.. I have let my kids do that too but it has been awhile. The picture of Small Fry with his face all smooched up in delight is CLASSIC! So cute!!
Jackie,
Thanks so much for the mention; you are so sweet!
And what GREAT pictures (and even better memories, I'm sure)! Good for you. I loved this! And I sure wish we had rain here...it's still hot! (107 today)
What incredible pictures. How fun!!! the one of the three boys is just priceless..you should frame it. Makes me want to go out and do the same thing..
That is awesome! I love the way your little guy gets right in there with the big boys. Those are some great pictures to preserve some wonderful memories. Thanks for the reminder.
I can so relate with everything you wrote in this post! I too try and be intentional about fun. It is a neat coincedence too that last night Dan and I played pitch and bat with the girls in the rain. It was so fun. We adults need fun too. Life isn't all 'have tos' unless we let it be! :) I'm a 'no nonsense', 'get it done' kinda woman too who needs reminded of this as much as anyone. Thanks for the pics. Small fry is so precious and the older boys are too!
You inspire me, Jackie! Thanks for sharing!!
